Gillian is a qualified psychotherapist and counsellor with over twelve years clinical experience. She is accredited with United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy (UKCP) and is a member of the Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling Association (MUPCA). Gillian is also a member of the Society of Existential Analysis, undertakes regular supervision and is committed to a programme of continuing professional development.
Gillian’s clinical experience derives from working with individuals and couples who have sought her help for a wide range of concerns including stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, bereavement, sexuality, compulsive and destructive behaviour patterns, eating disorders, trauma and work/life balance. She has a special interest in working with individuals from different cultures, women with young families and/or fertility concerns, relationship problems and existential issues; including life crises and life changes.
Gillian’s approach combines her existential/philosophical training and CBT strategies and interventions including Mindfulness. Developing a strong therapeutic alliance is very important to her as it helps clients to feel safe and to be able to explore very sensitive matters. Her interactive approach seeks to question assumptions and core beliefs, in order to assist individuals to face up to the challenges of life.
Prior to qualifying as a psychotherapist, Gillian worked for many years as a consultant psychologist in the field of education, which involved assessing and advising on learning difficulties, as well as providing careers guidance. This experience significantly contributed to her ability to develop therapeutic relationships with young people and adolescents.
