Thomas Jones

MA MBACP

Tom is a BACP registered existential psychotherapist with experience of working in the charitable and voluntary sectors, alongside his private practice. His training includes cognitive behavioural and psychodynamic approaches, and he uses both in conjunction with his existential background to work in an integrative and flexible way.

He has worked with clients experiencing a range of challenges, including bereavement and loss, relationships and family dynamics, and self-esteem and confidence. He has an interest in working with all forms of anxiety, particularly those associated with identity and life transitions.

Tom has worked across a range of education sectors for over fifteen years, including with pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), in secondary schools, and in Higher Education. Prior to this, he came from a background in the arts. Both factors inform his approach to psychotherapy, where he draws on his expertise in facilitating learning and building rapport, as well as his interest in creative ways of working.

Tom currently divides his time between teaching at University College London (UCL), doctoral study, and his psychotherapy practice. He is currently in the later stages of completing a doctorate in existential psychotherapy and is particularly interested in the education and training of psychotherapists, as well as the relationship between psychotherapy practice and research.
